Preparing images
Open Picasa which should be available on the computers for this session. If you are doing this on your own then you'll need to download and install the software which is available from the Picasa links here and throughout this site. It's a simple 'follow the steps' process but it may take some time as the programme will set about cataloging all your images!
Sample images will be provided on your computer or can be assessed at the links in the panel below. These include some with dimensions that are too big for direct use on the web or in normal documents and some that are just plain in need of some attention!
In the Picasa image display, double click on a thumbnail to enlarge the view. To view another either use the arrows at the top of the display or just double click on another thumbnail. Often using the I'm Feeling Lucky button will work wonders. Where that isn't enough, try some of the other tools. they can all be undone.
More guidance for cropping and rotating images, and creating a Photo Gallery is provided in the Further development section.
Publishing images on your web log
Picasa and Blogger both come from the Google stable so this process is made really simple. Just select the image, edit it as required, and hit the Blog this button (at the foot of the display). You'll be taken to Blogger - enter your login details and Picasa will simply get on with the job of resizing the image as appropriate, adjusting its resolution and compressing it. It should arrive in a new post where you can then add a title and type or paste text or some notes.
This facility can also be used to publish a group of images or a collage of several. It really is that simple! Adding images to a web site can still be a quite complex procedure by other means, requiring much more advanced skills and understanding of technical aspects. Flickr have a useful gallery facility and their upload process is pretty painless but some work is still needed to get a particular image displayed where you want it. More about that here.
