Practice Presentation task
What you have to do
Your task is to select a song, a painting, a photograph, a film, a tv programme, a book or a poem that is one of your favourites. Consider what it is that this particular piece of music, art or writing has that makes it so good, or special, to you. Prepare a presentation in which you will play or show the item, or an excerpt from it, describe the artist(s) and some background information about it and summarise your reasons for choosing it to your colleagues.

Why this is a good idea
The purpose of this assignment is to provide an opportunity for you to demonstrate skills in researching information, summarising a range of items, distinguishing between facts and opinions, planning and arranging a presentation and delivering a presentation to an audience.

You can always ask for help
This task should also prove to be valuable practice for your main assignment and you can ask for help from your tutor with any part of it (except, of course, the actual presentation!).

Make some notes – and keep them
The whole presentation should be designed to last about 10 minutes, of which no more than 5 minutes should be taken up with the playing or viewing of the item itself. For this presentation, handouts will not be required for the audience but you should keep a note of how you planned the task and comment afterwards on how you think it went and which parts, if any, you feel could have been improved.

Warning!
When selecting the subject for your presentation, please remember that your tutor will not permit anything to be played or displayed which might be offensive, or cause concern to any member of the expected audience. Your tutor’s decision in this respect is final. Whatever your proposed choice, check with your tutor before proceeding!
