1 Hardware for handling digital images P1 P2 M1

For 3 pieces of hardware that are directly related to the production or display of digital images describe briefly what they do and obtain specifications and current UK prices for two examples of each, one being a typical 'low budget' product, the other being a 'top end', high specification product.

In a presentation, illustrate the items and compare the two examples, commenting on what type of use might warrant the higher specification products.

Compare the graphics card or on-board capabilities of a typical current top-selling laptop with those of a model available about 5 years ago. Include your findings in your presentation and describe how digital imaging developments have had an impact in this market.

2 Image design tasks for a client P3 P4 P5 M2 M3 D1

You will be provided with a brief for 3 images required by a client. One is a photograph of a scene to be used both as a background to a brochure cover and a web page. The second is a corporate logo of your own design to meet their requirements and in versions suitable for printing and web use. The third is a sample of the brochure cover featuring the photograph and logo as well as some additional content to be supplied. This will also need to be prepared as both a print-ready file and a lower resolution version suitable for e-mailing or download from a web site.

You should define and document the client's need and the stages of your work on the tasks, indicating equipment and software utilised as well as image specifications (size, formats, file size, resolution, colour depth etc.)

Once created, your images will be reviewed with the client and, where necessary, required changes advised. Hard copies of the final printed images, links to web images and screen prints or summaries indicating file specifications should be included with your task documentation in a portfolio.
