Assignments1 Threats to systems, data and equipmentIntroductionThe objective of this assignment is to provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate that they can summarise and interpret a range of threats demonstrate awareness of the potential or actual impact that either may arise or has arisen in reported cases. Your task is to research at least four different type of threat and summarise your findings in a short report or presentation. Try to use terms and examples to illustrate some of the main problems that can arise in a way that might be readily understood by a client who may be unfamiliar with these aspects. Your report should contain a short summary of about 100 words for each of the specific type of threat researched and a more in-depth study of the impact for a selected three or four cases. You should also be prepared to discuss your research findings and potential impact of some types of threat in a small group discussion to be observed by your tutor. NoteFor the purposes of this report you should ensure that only threats that are either current or, in specific instances have occurred within the last few years and that examples referred have had an impact of some significance on operations of a UK registered organisation or institution. Sources of information referred to must be provided as references to the relevant books, publications or web sites. This assignment may provide evidence to meet criteria P1-4, M1-3 and D1 2 Countermeasures and promoting good practiceIntroductionThe objective of this assignment is to provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate that they can describe the countermeasures that an organisation can take to minimise the impact, or prevent initial occurrence of, a range of different types of threat. Include at least one measure that is related to physical equipment, such as avoiding damage to, or loss of, equipment and one that is related to software or information. Design a range of posters or publicity material to promote awareness of security issues and be prepared to explain to the group the message that you wish to put across and its relevance in particular circumstances. (For example, you may wish to remind tutors not to leave computers unattended when they are logged in!) The group and your tutor will select the best promotional ideas and each individual will submit a final version, revised as necessary to take into account feedback. NoteFor the purposes of this report you should ensure that only threats that are either current or, in specific instances have occurred within the last few years and that examples referred to have had an impact of some significance on operations of a UK registered organisation or institution. Sources of information referred to must be provided as references to the relevant books, publications or web sites. This assignment may provide evidence to meet criteria P1-4, M1-3 and D1 3 Draft policy for use of IT systems by students at CollegeIntroductionThe objective of this assignment is to provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate that they can propose how the type of security threats that might exist in the College environment can be minimised through regulations and control of IT equipment and software used by students. You will need to consider which problems you believe are most likely to arise in an unregulated environment, including potential breaches of legislation and the vulnerability of College management to prosecution under criminal law or to liability to civil action. Draft a suitable policy for IT use with which you would recommend that students commit to complying. In addition to the submission of a written document you will be asked to discuss with colleagues and your tutor such ethical and legal issues that may pertain to some of the restrictions you have proposed. Areas that you may wish to deal with could include, for example, sharing files on peer-to-peer type networks, the use of personal computers in class, access to social networking web sites and risks that may arise from use of equipment by inadequately trained individuals. NoteIt is recommended that you obtain a copy of any agreement that you may have signed yourself, or an actual policy being implemented at an organisation or institution for reference purposes. Sources of information referred to must be provided as references to the relevant books, publications or web sites. This assignment may provide evidence to meet criteria P6-7, and D1-2 4 Disaster RecoveryIntroductionThe objective of this assignment is to provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate that they can identify problems that might arise from a disaster that destroyed business premises and computer equipment stored there and propose a range of solutions that would minimise loss of information and assist in enabling a business to continue trading effectively. You will need to consider which problems you believe are most significant, looking at personnel data, customer information, sales records, stock control, promotional items etc. and how frequently back-ups should be made and what system or systems might be suitable. Provide examples of a commercial service that a business might use and also any devices available that might be used as an alternative. In addition to the submission of a written document you will be asked to discuss with colleagues and your tutor such ethical and legal issues that may pertain to some of the restrictions you have proposed. NoteSources of information referred to must be provided as references to the relevant books, publications or web sites. This assignment may provide evidence to meet criteria P5, and D1-2
